The reason hard woods are so hard is because they grow slowly. Try to buy teak furniture from a sustainable source so that you know that the forests where it was grown is not under threat of deforestation.

If you buy good quality teak furniture, it should last as long as 20 to 25 years so is probably worth the initial investment.
